Tambu Masaya-Harkema

Principal Physiotherapist MSc, PGradDipSportsPhysio, BSc Physio (Hons).
Gold level accredited Chartered Physiotherapist in Exercise and Sports Medicine, Member of: Physio First, Association of Chartered Physiotherapists Interested in Vestibular Rehabilitation
My early career in Physiotherapy began with in 1995 with the under 21 Zimbabwe National Rugby team, then rugby and lacrosse teams in Western Australia, whilst completing postgraduate training to specialise in sports.
Since then, my skills have extended well beyond sports injuries, using my specialist knowledge to analyse movement, perform orthopaedic tests to diagnose musculoskeletal problems and manage long standing pain and movement disorders. I am particularly interested in conservative (non-surgical) management for conditions which would otherwise proceed to surgery. My gold level accreditation in Exercise and Sports Medicine is recognised by the British Olympic Association and UK Sport (high performance sport).
My advanced Sports Trauma training (pre-hospital care) equips me with the skills to manage all levels of musculoskeletal injuries, from early and acute diagnosis, through treatment to final rehabilitation.
Around my clinic work, I provide physiotherapy cover for elite level sport at National and International level including British Universities and Colleges Sports events, National Badminton England events, and England Hockey Junior events. I was physiotherapist to the London Olympics (athletics), Olympic test events, European (multi sport) Games, the Commonwealth Games (athletics), full time physiotherapist to Badminton England for 3 years, International university golf, four London Marathons and two All Africa Games (multi sports).
On a personal level: in my childhood, I had a close relationship with my grandmother who lived in our family home. Through this upbringing I enjoy elderly care, including falls prevention in the elderly.
In my work I am passionate about two other topics: Vestibular rehabilitation and Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder (Connective Tissue Disorders associated with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome/Marfans). You can read more about that on my blog pages.
