Carefully graded and monitored muscular recruitment for customised exercises selection. Suitable for re-entry to Pilates or intro for pain conditions. Involves a physiotherapy assessment. There are hundreds of pilates exercise and we determine, through assessment, which selection is right for you. May include manual therapy. This may suit people who have attended a pilates class which made them worse. Often the problem is that the exercise was not pitched at the correct level for the level of sensitivity of the condition. This is where clinical pilates can help since it incorporates an assessment, with a pilates approach, to tailor your exercise to your particular needs. It is not a one-size-fits-approach. FAQ: What’s the difference between normal Pilates and clinical?
Not every Pilates exercise is right for everyone, as our bodies, our weaknesses, and our biomechanics are all different and some Pilates exercises make problems worse rather than better. Clinical Pilates is 1:1, and is much more specific as it takes into consideration the medical (anatomical) factors. So it’s tailored. You would do a handful of clinical sessions which are based on assessment. After that you may be ready to enter general Pilates armed with the specific knowledge on what to avoid in the classes which can make the condition worse. The clinical sessions also ensure that the sequence in which you contract your muscles is correct, to minimise strain.
